Your drain tile system is the first line of defense against flooding in your home. Our experts service both exterior drain tile and interior drain tile.

Most newer homes – those built in the 1980s and after – have an exterior drain tile system as per city code. However, there are still many properties that have an interior drain tile instead.

What is drain tile?

Drain tile is a critical part of your home’s waterproofing and excavation services. It looks like a large 4” pipe with small perforations along its surface, allowing groundwater to seep in.

Once the water enters the drain tile, it flows into the building’s sump pit. The sump pump then efficiently removes the water from your home, playing a crucial role in basement waterproofing and protecting your foundation from long-term water damage.

How do we install new or replace existing sections of drain tile systems?

We offer the installation and repair of both exterior and interior drain tile. Over time, debris like settlement, roots, silt, etc. can clog or even damage the drain tile. The build-up of water under and/or around your foundation can eventually force its way into the basement or crawl space.

Exterior drain tile requires excavating a trench along the foundation wall, down to the footing.

Drain tile is laid in a gravel bed along the foundation walls. An exterior sump pit is installed, a sump pump is placed in the pit, and the trench is backfilled. Depending on how your home is laid out, multiple walls of drain tile may be installed.

Interior drain tile is usually installed in a 12” wide trench excavated along the wall/floor joint (where the floor meets the wall). The material under the broken out concrete floor is removed to access the footing. Drain tile is then placed in a gravel bed and either tied into an existing sump pit or a newly installed pit with a sump pump placed in it.

Afterwards, our team will replace the concrete flooring. This is an extremely effective repair but usually only done when installing exterior tile is problematic.

Professional inspection of the interior perimeter of your basement floor (to look for damp spots, staining or other signs of water intrusion) is essential when diagnosing drain tile issues.
